Hello and Welcome
You have found yourself here not by accident.
My name is Suzanne Shaw and I am a psychoanalyst and marriage and family therapist (# MFC40571) located in Pasadena, California. I believe that therapy is a place, a process, and a person with whom to share this heroic quest of life: to know oneself honestly and humbly, to discover and do in the world what one was made to do (and enjoy it!), and to love and be loved as fully as possible. I can walk alongside you in your discovery of who you are, and who you are becoming, to get the most joy and meaning out of your life and relationships.
You are on your one and only life's journey, and therapy can be a crucial part of that journey. Let's see if we will be a good fit for each other to do this important life work.
You might be looking for help for yourself, a loved one, or a relationship. You might be trying to save a marriage from crumbling, or wanting to proactively strengthen your intimacy or communication skills. You might be searching for meaning in your life, trying to overcome an addiction or bad habit, or solve a problem you have. Maybe you are trying to make sense of your past, or work toward goals you have for your future. Maybe you are seeking understanding of yourself or others, why you feel the way you do or why they act the way they do. Or something more abstract, like trying to discover who you are, and why you are here, what you were made to be and do.
Therapy is a professional service; like doctors, lawyers, chefs and hairstylists, there is a wide variety of quality, competence and styles out there. But it is more than just a service; it is a potentially profound, intimate and life-changing relationship. Choose wisely! After browsing through my site, I recommend checking out a few different people and seeing who you feel comfortable with before you commit. The #1 factor in the effectiveness of therapy is the goodness of fit between you and the therapist.
